Ryanair looks to develop ties
RYANAIR Direct chief executive Caroline Green said the budget airline would like to work with UK travel agents.
Green told the Digital Distribution in Travel conference that the airline is working with agents in Europe and UK agents may get access to booking systems in the future. She added that Ryanair Direct, which sells 90% of its tickets on-line, would like to give agents access to its Web site, but stressed that offering the lowest fare to the consumer was the airline’s aim, and this was not possible if agents charged a fee every time they sold a ticket.
ABTA chief executive Ian Reynolds said Ryanair tickets are so cheap, it would not be worth agents selling them because of the low rate of commission they would receive.
