BAA to boost southeast airport spend
BAA is to increase funding for its three southeast airports to an average of £600 million per year.
The 10% increase over the next 10 years will see Heathrow adapted to house the new Airbus A3XX aircraft, more facilities at Gatwick and the first phase of Heathrow’s Terminal 5, which opens in spring 2007.
BAA chief executive Mike Hodgkinson said: “This investment programme is intended to ensure that we provide additional capacity and the right quality of service.”
BAAforecasts 109 million passengers will pass through its three southeast airports in 2000/01 and has allocated £482 million for the year.
BAAis also waiting for the results of the Civil Aviation Authority’s regulatory review on new airport charges for the five years from 2003/04.
BAAhas written to airlines asking for a response to its proposals by mid-January.
