CAMPING operator Sunsites has introduced no-frills sites to its summer programme as it continues to target the budget-conscious holidaymaker.
It is featuring 13 Value Plus Sites in Brittany, Vendee, western Mediterranean and the French Riviera with prices around 30%-40% less than other locations.
The move follows a preview brochure launched last November which offered a range of price-related incentives in a bid to capture the lower end of the market.
Managing director of Holidaybreak’s camping division Jim Crew said the new sites also aim to attract those who would usually go on a package holiday.
“It will enable Sunsites to increase its share of the mobile home market as well as attract a new customer base,” said Crew. “For many, price is a deciding factor and for those not wanting the full service and facilities of the main Sunsites programme we decided to put together this no-frills option.
“We believe they are ideal for families who do not need hand holding as well as those who traditionally would opt for the package-holiday option.”
Unlike the major sites, the low-cost locations do not have a resident Sunsites courier. Instead, reps will visit on a weekly basis.
Families must also arrive on a Wednesday or Saturday and stay for seven or 14 nights.
Crew stressed that all sites have been vetted to ensure accommodation is up to scratch.
Prices start at £169 for a family of six staying seven nights at Le Dattier on the Riviera.
In addition to the Value Plus Sites, the operator is featuring 22 French campsites in its 2000 programme.
