AWTE looks to raise £100,000 for anti-child sex tourism drive
the Association of Women Travel Executives will launch an anti-child sex tourism drive at World Travel Market.
AWTE aims to raise £10,000 from exhibitors to cover the cost of a banner campaign, which it hopes travel agents across the country will take up.
AWTE spokeswoman Pauline Young said she hoped agents would display the banners, which will state ‘Say No to Child Sex Tourism’.
Young and her colleagues will be at Earl’s Court trying to find sponsors for the campaign.
“We only need 20 sponsors to pledge £500 each to get this up and running,” said Young.
“Child sex tourism won’t go away unless we do something about it.We know it’s a sensitive issue, but we’re hoping people care enough to do something.”
Cynthia Messer, standing committee director on education for the International Federation of Women’s Travel Organisations, will be arriving from the the US to assist AWTE with the launch.
