Pacific northwest by Alan Moore
States to go it alone at this year’s show
Regions to exhibit separately
WHILEthe Pacific Northwest states of Washington, Oregon and Alaska complement each other as regions of outstanding natural beauty, all three will be exhibiting separately at World Travel Market.
In the past they have co-operated in joint marketing and promotion activities but this year they are concentrating on creating greater individual identities in the UK market.
Seattle in Washington State, a fashionable city-break destination, is showcasing new facilities and entertainment options. It is fast becoming a cruise port for major lines such as Norwegian Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean International. NCL is establishing seven-day round-trip Alaska cruises from Seattle, while Royal Caribbean is increasing its three and four-day itineraries taking in Vancouver and Victoria in British Columbia.
The city is also being promoted as a starting point for new self-drive tours, including the lakes and mountains region of the Olympic Peninsula, and other suggested trips based on the state’s wine trails.
Washington State is fast becoming one of the top wine-producing states, even rivalling neighbouring California with its well-known range of varieties.
