Golf favourite finds mileage in latest historical itineraries

THE North Carolina delegation at World Travel Market is launching a major development and promotional programme of niche products throughout next year.

Subjects include Civil War trails, gardens, African American heritage and a golf trails brochure.

These are being added to other historical-itinerary themes including the Trail of Tears, based on Indiana and the First Settlers, and Black American Heritage and Cotton Trails.

However, golf is the state’s largest niche market with nearly 600 courses available, and North Carolina wants to play up its strengths as a host of top events. Following the staging of the US Open last year, it will host the 2001 US Ladies’ Open at Pinehurst.

It also has details of a new golf and conference resort at Grandover in Greensboro.

In early December, the state ties up with accommodation specialist Seligo to take a group of agents on a ‘Christmas in North Carolina’ fam to emphasise seasonal travel to the US.
