WTM delegation to publicise new properties and products
Barbados’ new minister of tourism Noel Anderson Lynch will head a 60-strong delegation to World Travel Market, which will also include the new chairman of the Barbados Tourism Authority, Hudson Husbands.
A discussion point will be the Caribbean Tourism Organisation’s annual conference, CTC-24, which took place on October 16-19 this year.
CTC-24 was held at the Sherbourne Conference Centre and the theme was ‘Managing Change in the 21st Century’ with speakers focusing on key tourist industry issues, including new technology, transportation concerns and product development.
Bajan exhibitors on the stand will also have news of the island’s first public championship 18-hole golf course, the Barbados Golf Course which opened in August. It is located near the airport on the south coast and will play host to the Barbados Open Golf Championship this month and a PGA seniors tournament in 2002.
On the hotel scene, there are several new developments. The second phase of Savannah, a hotel in the Gems group, will soon be completed with 80 new rooms. Thirty rooms will be especially equipped for business travellers.
The island’s oldest hotel, spectacular Crane Beach on the east coast which features original antique furniture, has added a new wing with 21 rooms including two three-bedroom penthouses.
