Groups get in the driving seat to rev up interest in self-drive tours
TOURISM Victoria is putting itself firmly in the driving seat at World Travel Market with the promotion of new guides to self-driving itineraries around the state.
In a joint venture with Tourism New South Wales, one initiative is aimed at encouraging visitors to take the Coastal Drive route between Melbourne and Sydney, while Victoria is also suggesting other itineraries featuring Melbourne and the surrounding areas.
Both are highlighted in new publications being distributed at the show.
The Coastal Drive brochure features attractions and accommodation en route and details alternative journeys between the two cities.
Complementing these are suggested drives within the Melbourne area, which will be illustrated in Tourism Victoria’s 2001 destination planner.
It includes information on the regions, a good-food guide, accommodation and a Festivals and Spectacles section.
Tourism Victoria has also produced a Hallmark Events brochure which will be focusing on all the confirmed major events being held in the state over the next six years.
Details of all these product developments will be available from the state tourist office, which is again part of the Australian Tourist Commission stand at WTM.
It’s a shore thing: the Coastal Drive brochure features a host of attractions and routes
