QE2 cruises in on theatrical antics

FANS of West End musicals will get the opportunity to sit in on rehearsals and watch backstage developments during voyages on the QE2 this year.

Owner Cunard Line has struck a deal with production companies to prepare their new shows for launch while on board the ship.

“Our guests will witness the birth of a blockbuster,” claimed an optimistic entertainment director, Greg Von Seeger.

Maybe even a new South Pacific, HMS Pinafore or the all-time classic, and Backchat’s favourite, Hello Sailor.

The first show in the series will appear in May – a comedy named Enter the Guardsman (ooh-er, missus!)

Meanwhile, celebrities including actor James Coburn, playwright Neil Simon and Hollywood producer Irwin Winkler have been lined up to give talks to passengers about theatrical life.
