&#42 new vessels named

Princess Cruises has announced the names of the ships coming into service by 2004. They will be called Star Princess, Coral Princess, Island Princess, Diamond Princess and Sapphire Princess. The vessels will join Golden Princess, which goes into service next May.

&#42 concorde revamp

British Airways is forging ahead with its £14 million plans to revamp Concorde. The airline refused to reveal time scales but hopes Concorde will be back in operation by the new year. Meanwhile, speculation continues to surround BA’s alliance agreement with Oneworld. It is believed the carrier is in talks with Delta and Air France, founder members of the SkyTeam alliance. A BA spokesman said: “We are in talks with a lot of companies all the time.”

&#42 KLM results

KLM has announced a 55% increase in its half-year profits. The Dutch carrier reported a net income of £92 million for the period ending September 30. KLM president and chief executive officer Leo Van Wijk said:”These results are impressive. They are evidence of the company’s ability to respond fast by successfully reducing the manageability component of our unit costs.”

&#42 Amicus travel

Amicus Travel left a message on its answer phone last week to say that it had ceased trading as of Monday, October 31.As Travel Weekly went to press we were unable to contact the company.

&#42 viewdata upgrade

Panorama and sister company Manos Holidays have upgraded their viewdata capability to enable agents to book multicentre itineraries.
