Brittany orders new £70m ship

BRITTANY Ferries has ordered a new £70 million ship to operate the Portsmouth-Caen route from spring 2002.

The new ship, to be built in Rotterdam, will carry 2,200 passengers and nearly 800 cars.

It will give the ferry operator 20% more car carrying capacity than its predecessor, the Duc de Normandie, which will move to the Plymouth-Roscoff route. On-board facilities will include a choice of restaurants, club class-style seating, cinemas, an Internet café and a disco for teenagers. Commodore Class suites will be included in the cabin mix.
