Urbanweb introduces viewdata facility to site

Report by Jane Archer

URBANWEB is launching a password-protected site on its DanceXport Web pages which will enable agents to book via viewdata.

The youth retail operation was launched this year as a concept where young people can research holidays on-line then go into an agent to book in the normal way. With the viewdata link, agents can view resorts, hotel, holidays and dates, then go into viewdata using an IP View link to make the booking.

The password-protected site is being launched at this year’s World Travel Market, while a CD-Rom version of the site will be available from the end of the year. Urbanweb is also demonstrating its Lost Weekends site at WTM. The new site will be launched in January.

Developed with Travelscene, it is aimed at the same market as DanceXport but features weekend breaks at some European cities. Managing director Steve Endacott said: “Young people have high disposable incomes. We are also planning ski and UK breaks products.”

Endacott added that DanceXport will launch a promotion in clubs across the UK. Non-executive chairman of the board of directors George Marcall will be leading the promotion which is aimed at getting the e-mail addresses of young people who go clubbing. It will then target them with information about DanceXport. “We will start the promotions before Christmas,” Endacott said.
