Tourist prices are too high

Report by Kirsten Bowling

TOURIST prices have risen by at least 4.5% in the UK since
1999 according to the Good Britain Guide 2001.

Researchers for the guide surveyed more than 3,000 tourist
establishments and found that prices for attractions like theme parks,
restaurants, and accommodation have risen more than the retail price index.

Associate editor Alisdair Aird said: “The sharpest price
increases were in places to eat and admission charges to attractions. It is
totally ridiculous that prices have gone up so much in a year when tourists
visiting this country from abroad has dropped.”

A British Tourist Authority spokesman said: “It is true we
are seen as an expensive destination, especially by Europe, but we need to let
people know that there are good value things to do.”
