Report by John Lavabre
BRITISH Airways is to provide 10 additional flights from
Newcastle Airport to Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted over the Christmas period.
BA says the extra flights, which will provide 4,000
additional seats between December 20 and January 1, are being laid on in
response to the current rail disruption and due to demand for air travel to the
capital.
Last month Newcastle airport reported a 23% growth in
passengers with more than 100,000 travellers flying on domestic services.
BAA, owners of Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Glasgow,
Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Southampton airports has also announced a rise in passengers
for November. BAA is putting this down to problems on the rail network.
