Carnival Cruise Lines will install smokeless engines

Report by Kirsten Bowling

CARNIVAL Cruise Lines is set to revolutionise the cruise
industry by installing a smokeless diesel engine on its new ship Carnival Spirit
when it is launched in the spring.

The EnviroEngine, will be the first of its kind fitted on a
cruise ship and has been modified to exceed the international standards for
emissions. It is expected to be beneficial in port because it does not produce
visible emissions.

The new engine will also be fitted on other Carnival vessels
currently under construction, including Holland America Line and Costa Cruises.
