Thomas Cook said training on discounts worked

Report by Jeremy Skidmore

THOMAS Cook believes it has saved over a million pounds by
holding a special half-day training session for staff to help them understand
the January discounts.

The retailer predicted a complex series of offers would be
launched on the market and spent time with branch staff before Christmas,
explaining to them how they would work.

Thomas Cook retail commercial director Mike Beaumont said
the strategy paid off and stopped staff inadvertently giving away too much in
discounts.
