CAA to raise profile of ATOL

Report by Lydia Wilson

THE CIVIL Aviation Authority’s Consumer Protection Group is
hoping to boost awareness of its Air Travel Organiser’s Licensing scheme by
issuing brochures to tourist offices and resort hotels.

The action comes after a December 2000 poll revealed
widespread confusion about the ATOL scheme among travel and aviation industry
players and MPs. At the time, Consumer Protection Group director Helen Simpson
promised a campaign to improve ATOL (Travel Weekly December 4).

Consumer Protection Group deputy director David Moesli said
suppliers in resorts and tourist offices in every relevant country would be
targeted.
