Retailers face ruin as AETA collapses

Report by Steve Jones and John Lavabre

DOZENS of travel agents are facing ruin following the
collapse of the Association of European Travel Agents.

Worried retailers among the consortium’s 235 members are now
scrambling to join other organisations in a bid to stay in business. However,
sources said many are being rejected by ABTA, Global Travel Group and the
Travel Trust Association and face going to the wall.

One source said: “They are simply too small and do not
fulfil the financial criteria.”
