Walking
One of the best ways to explore the Greek countryside is on foot, travelling
from one village to the next staying in different accommodation on route. A
handful of operators organise walking holidays in Greece and the Greek islands,
including Exodus, Explore, Naturetrek and Simply Travel.
Explore has three treks in Greece. A nine or 16-day Aegean Islands Hike
includes a trek to the top of Mount Ochi on the island of Eva, while the
highlight of the new eight or 15-day Cretan Rambler is a trek through the Samaria
Gorge. The lead-in price is £495 for nine days including flights,
accommodation, transfers, sightseeing, a guide and some meals.
The relatively strenuous 14-day Zagoria and Pindos Trek covers some of the
highest peaks in Greece.
Simply Travel has two walking holidays. The six-day two-centre walk in
Zagori, which starts on June 10, costs £785 per person and includes flights,
full-board accommodation, an English-speaking guide and transfers.
The six-day, two-centre walk in Pelion costs £785 and starts on September
23.
