Getting there: Lauda Air flies from Heathrow to Kuala Lumpur via Vienna.
Total flying time is around 12 hours 30 minutes. Malaysia Airlines flies
direct. Pangkor Laut resort is a four-hour drive from Kuala Lumpur. Added to
this is a ferry journey of around 20 minutes from the port of Lumut. Flight
transfers from Kuala Lumpur, including those by helicopter, can be arranged.
Tanjong Jara can be reached by taking a45-minute flight from Kuala Lumpur to
Kuala Terengganu Airport, followed by a one-hour drive to the resort.
Time: GMT plus eight hours.
CLIMATE: Malaysia has a humid tropical climate withtemperatures rarely
dropping below 20ûC, even at night. Rain tends to come in short torrential
bursts. November toFebruary is considered the wet season at Tanjong Jara,
although residents claim there is only a slight differencein rainfall.
when to go: Malaysia is considered a year-round destination because of its
consistent climate.
cost of living: Malaysia is not an expensive destination and the exchange
rate works in the British tourist’s favour. Away from the resort, a coffee will
cost around 20p andhand-decorated batik clothing, a speciality of the country,
starts at around £2 for a sarong, rising to £20 for a silk shirt.
