What are the drawbacks?
ONE of the main drawbacks with multi-purpose vehicles is the high cost of renting, although that is good news for travel agents who can earn more commission on a sale (see sample product box).
They are also heavier on fuel than an average saloon. But Hertz UK head of leisure sales Kim Buchanan said: “Fuel is cheaper in Europe and the US, so it will still work out less expensive than the fuel required for two cars.”
The other drawback is that although multi-purpose vehicles are available for hire in several countries, they are not in plentiful supply, partly because they are expensive for rental companies to buy. They are also veryseasonal.
