Blair and Mowlam top events-organising poll
Beckham: not favoured as anafter-dinner speaker
PRIME minister Tony Blair and former Northern Ireland secretary Mo Mowlam are best placed among their political peers to organise a successful event, according to a new report from meeting and events website venuefinder.com.
The survey, which quizzed 400 business people on what elements make a well-organised conference, found the majority unimpressed with a perceived lack of organisational skills among senior members of the Conservative party, especially party leader William Hague and shadow chancellor Michael Portillo.
Almost half of those questioned wanted to see television character Victor Meldrew as their after-dinner speaker. The least-favoured speakers included David Beckham and television presenter Denise Van Outen.
Just less than half of those surveyed said the ability of the venue to exceed their expectations was the most important element in a successful event, while 31% felt good speakers were the key.
Just 0.5% of respondents thought efficient organisation the most vital ingredient.
