Bucking the trend after Self abuse

AIRPORTS can be very dull places at the best of times.

Journalist and writer Will Self came up with a few suggestions for making them more interesting when he appeared on the television programme Room 101 recently.

One item he banished for all eternity was airports, as he thought they were too boring.

His solution was to build transparent aircraft and force the check-in clerks to wear Buck Rogers-style clothing with gold-winged helmets. He added that golden statues should adorn each side of the runway, saying airports do not celebrate the excitement and joy of flying.

So what did the guys at Heathrow make of Self’s ideas? Well, it appears they have taken them to heart.

“We are very interested in Will’s proposals and will make sure the design team working on Terminal 5 are made aware of these very exciting suggestions,” said a spokesman.
