Emirates responds to DVT worries

DUBAI-BASED airline Emirates has responded to fears over
deep vein thrombosis and is to issue all long-haul passengers with a device
that will improve blood circulation to the legs.

The Airogym is an inflatable footpad which the passenger
presses down on while sitting in their seat. This action squeezes blood into
the major veins in the calf and should prevent a thrombosis from forming.

Emirates head of medical services Dr Alasdair Beatton said
the Airogym has been proved to increase blood circulation to the legs, but
added there is more to learn about the causes of deep vein thrombosis.
