Regional flights hoped to widen UK catchment
UNIJET has expanded its regional flying to broaden its appeal across the UK.
The move comes amid concerns that its product was inaccessible to large areas of the country.
The operator has added 52 routes including several additions from Liverpool, Newcastle, Glasgow and Bristol.
Short-haul general manager John Riley said: “There was a certain amount of product that was not available from regional airports and customers from Newcastle are not prepared to travel to Manchester Airport to fly to Corfu.”
“Expanding our regional flights provides a larger catchment area for the product and furthermore helps to back up the shop network across the country,” he added.
Despite the increased flying, Riley said there was no plan to increase capacity.
The Spanish resort of Costa de Almeria has been added with three, three-star properties featured, including the Best Golf Park Hotel which is currently under construction.
Riley said Greece would continue to be a strong early-booking family destination for the operator.
Further growth is expected as Turkey continues to recover from its recent turmoils.
“It will be a case of battening down the hatches and stabilising Turkey,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Haywards Heath-based company has dropped its Squids Clubs for children and replaced it with Looney Tunes-themed clubs, the same as First Choice.
