Attendances up for many attractions

Devon: Castle Drogo reported 3,925 visitors, a fall of 13.4% on last year. But the attraction was cheered by the figures given that it is in the heart of Dartmoor, one of the country’s worst hit areas.

Art Deco mansion Coleton Fishacre had 2,236 visitors, compared to 2,133 during Easter 2000. The English Heritage attraction is based on the coast.

Cornwall: Lanhydrock House and Gardens was 12% up on last year. The National Trust recruited 106 new members.

Lincolnshire: Magical World of Fantasy Island reported an increase in visitor numbers of around 15%. Indoor facilities proved a popular diversion in the poor weather.

Shropshire: the nine Ironbridge Gorge Museums saw numbers rise by a third. For example, Blists Hill Victorian Town, the largest of the nine received 6,933 visitors compared to 5,562 for Easter 2000.

London: London Planetarium operated at near capacity over the Easter weekend, with 3,500 visitors every day.
