Transdanubia
This region west of the Danube covers 40% of the wholeof Hungary.
Historic cities include Gyor in the north and Pecs in the south. Pecs, pronounced ‘Paish’, is a cultural centre and this is reflected in its museums and galleries.
Towns such as Sopron and Koszeg near the Austrian border are almost untouched by modern development.
