Northern hills
Eger is noted for its fine Baroque architecture, 16th-century castle and the red wine better known as Bull’s Blood.
It sits amid the Hungarian uplands, the five hill ranges which stretch from Budapest to the Slovakian border and rise to 3,326ft at Kekesteto in the Matra Hills. In this region is Holloko, a UNESCO-listed village of traditional whitewashed houses, and Godollo, home to the Grassalkovich Palace.
