Europcar cuts cost of cover with new insurance package

EUROPCAR has launched a car-rental insurance package which reduces the cost of cover by almost half.

Called Top Up Cover, it includes unlimited third-party cover, provides up to £100,000 per person (to a maximum of £300,000) for personal accident and effects cover, and allows a free additional driver. The client’s damage excess is set at just £100, including damage to windscreens and tyres.

The package costs £9.99 a day, plus VAT, which Europcar said is more than £8 a day cheaper than buying the unlimited third party, personal accident and effects and additional driver cover individually.

Fleet and operations director Steve Maltby said: “We anticipate Top UpCover becoming a market-leading product as it offers financial savings and added value.”

Meanwhile, the car-rental company has expanded its management team to raise its profile in the UK following Volkswagen’s decision to buy Europcar’s outstanding 50% stake from Accor for around £127m.

The car manufacturer has held a half-share in the rental company since 1991.

Michael Edmonds has been appointed to the new position of national sales manager responsible for the corporate and leasing sectors.

He joins from Avis where he was national account manager.

Michael McInerney takes the new position of UK fleet operations manager, responsible for planning, purchasing, sales and refurbishment of the UK fleet. He was previously operations director at Motoreasy.

“With our realigned ownership, Europcar in Europe and specifically the UK has a clear direction of remaining a high-quality, efficient car-rental company,” said McInerney.
