Event round-up


There are events taking place all year round in Holland. These are some of the highlights.


Keukenhof Spring Gardens, 23 March-21 May. The best time of year to visit Holland’s largest bulb garden. The summer exhibition runs from August 3-September 17.


National Museum Weekend, various venues, April 15-16. Dutch museums open their doors to the public free of charge or at greatly reduced rates.


Glory of the Golden Age, Rijksmuseum, April 15-16 September. To mark its bicentenary, the Amsterdam museum stages an exhibition of Old Masters’ paintings.


Bulb-Region Flower Parade, Noordwijk, April 29. Floats leave Noordwijk in the morning arriving in Haarlem by evening, where they will be on display throughout the weekend.


National Windmill Day, various venues, May 13. A chance to see inside the country’s trademark mills and find out how they work.


Euro 2000, various venues, June 10-July 2. The European Football Championships come to Holland.


Sail 2000, Amsterdam, August 24-28. Around 1,000 ships from across the world reach the finish of the Cutty Sark Tall Ships Race.


The Uitmarkt festival, Amsterdam, August 25-27. Opening of the cultural season in Amsterdam, with indoor and outdoor music and theatre.


World Harbour Days, Rotterdam, September 1-3. Open days for visitors on ships in the biggest harbour in the world.


Flower Festival, Aalsmeer, September 2. A three-mile long parade of floats decorated with flowers travels from Aalsmeer to Amsterdam.


Prince’s Day, The Hague, September 19. The day of the Queen’s speech, when she travels from the palace through the city streets in a golden coach.


Antique Fair, Amsterdam 26 November-3 December 110 dealers from around the world selling works of art in the RAI exhibition centre.
