AVIS is to introduce a batch of measures to help
improve employee loyalty and commitment in the company.
UK managing director Luke Medley told members of the
Guild of Business Travel Agents at their annual conference in Singapore that
Employee Participation Groups would shortly be introduced in the UK, as would a
long-term bonus scheme.
EPGs had already shown results in Avis’s Australian
operation, he said, and would allow the company’s UK workforce to have a say
over company direction.
“We open up the books to employees and get their
input about the way forward,” Medley explained. “Effective change is
not what you do to people, but what you do with people. And it’s fairly obvious
that the point of differentiation of any industry is its people.”
Medley is also planning to introduce an incentive
scheme that places a position-related bonus payment in a fund but does not
allow employees access to it for five years, thereby securing their commitment
to the company.
