THE NEW on-line venture formed by nine of Europe’s leading
airlines is to be known as Opodo, it was revealed today.
The venture will sell flights from 480 airlines, accommodation
from 54,500 hotel properties, car rental from 23,500 locations and travel
insurance.
Opodo will have its headquarters in London, but will operate
an independent website in each of its European markets.
The airlines backing Opodo are British Airways, Aer Lingus, Air
France, Alitalia, Austrian Airlines, Finnair, Iberia, KLM and Lufthansa.
The name Opodo was derived from the phrase “opportunity to
do”. It will be aimed at leisure
travellers and unmanaged business travellers.
The website can be visited by going to www.opodo.com, although it will not begin
trading until later in the year.
