Flights resume to Sri Lanka following airport raid

FLIGHTS have resumed to and from Bandaranaike International Airport
in Sri Lanka following yesterday’s attack by the Tamil Tigers.

SriLankan Airlines, which lost several aircraft in the raid,
is now flying to and from the airport and details of its services can be found
at its website, www.srilankan.lk.

The airport was closed yesterday after the Tamil Tigers launched
an attack on a military air base next to Bandaranaike.

Reports from the area suggest around 18 people were killed
in the fighting. Around 50 British tourists were caught up in the raid,
although none of them were hurt.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office is advising travellers
to postpone planned trips to Sri Lanka.
