FCO advises tourists to be cautious in Spain

THE FOREIGN and Commonwealth Office is advising visitors to
Spain to be wary of terrorist attacks following an ETA bomb blast at a hotel on
the Costa Dorada.

The bomb exploded on August 18 at the Calfont Hotel at
Salou, near Tarragona. No one was seriously injured as a result of the
explosion, but the hotel and nearby buildings were damaged.

A statement issued by the FCO said: “Visitors should be aware
that future attacks may not carry warnings and bombs may explode prematurely.
Statistically your chances of being caught up in a terrorist outrage are low but
there is still the possibility of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.”

The FCO is not advising holidaymakers to stay away from
Spain.

Earlier this year ETA revealed plans to damage the Spanish economy
by disrupting tourist areas. Since then an ETA bomb has prematurely exploded in
Torrevieja, near Alicante, and a car bomb left at Malaga airport failed to go
off.
