VisitScotland launches Virgin Radio campaign

Report by KIRSTENBOWLING

VISITSCOTLAND has signed a £60,000 deal with Virgin Radio to market golf to tourists.

The campaign will reach an estimated 3.2 million listeners who will get the chance to win a golfing break for two in Scotland. The offer is also available on www.virginradio.co.uk with a link to the golf pages on www.visitscotland.com.

VisitScotland golf marketing manager Neen Kelly said:”Given the drop in visitor numbers from the US in light of recent events, it is now increasingly important that we attract more visitors from our other target markets, of which the UK is the biggest.”

He said by investing in golf marketing and promotions, it will go some way towards raising the profile of VisitScotland.

Neen added:”Our entire golf product and brand is world famous and one in which many of our competitors are envious. We are demonstrating the importance we place on this sector through the increased budget commitment.”

In addition, VisitScotland has joined forces with the Scottish Tourism Forum, the British Hospitality Association, Scottish Enterprise and Highlands and Islands Enterprise for a one-day conference aimed at putting Scotland back on the tourism map.

BBC2 Working Lunch presenter Adrian Charles will chair the day’s events which will include presentations from VisitScotland chief executive Philip Riddle and Scottish ministers Wendy Alexander and Alasdair Morrison.

Called Scotland United it will take place on November 19 over 500 industry delegates are expected to attend.

Tickets are priced at £55 each. To order contact: 0141 641 7091 or 0131 476 8809.
