Amadeus joint venture launches in UK

A NEW technology company has been launched in the
UK that hopes to meet the needs of the leisure travel market.

The company, called Atinera, is a joint venture between
Amadeus and Fourth Dimension Software.  Its
core product, also known as Atinera, is a system that can link-up all the
various distribution channels and back office technology used by travel agents
and tour operators.

The company has spent five years and $60 million developing
the system. It has the ability to link up call centres, travel agents using
Viewdata and customers buying direct over the web with an operator’s available
product. It also links up the inventory management, accounting and fulfilment
operations.

“Atinera has been designed for today’s marketplace where
people have to use modern technology such as the Internet in conjunction with
back office systems that date back 20 years. We are aiming this product at all
sectors across the market regardless of their operation’s size,” said Atinera marketing
manager Tim Trewinnard.

Trewinnard added Atinera users do not pay a large licence
fee to use the product. Instead they are charged a fee for each transaction,
reducing the initial outlay and increasing its appeal to smaller companies.

In addition, the system can work in several currencies,
languages and locations.
