Naxos
As a much bigger port than neighbouring Pathos and Mykonos, getting off the ferry at Naxos is a bit of bun-fight. You have to fight your way through the hoards of people offering rooms for the night, starting from £5 for a bed in a dormitory.
Most of the restaurants are situated either around the harbour, or the main square, 10 minutes into Naxos town.
If you’re fed up with eating Greek salad or kebabs, Naxos is a godsend as the island has one of the widest choices of international cuisine. The Picasso Bistro, for example, serves Mexican food for about £10 a head for a three-course meal, including a marguerita.
There are several beaches within walking distance of the town.
The Matrix Internet café is particularly trendy. Usage is charged by the minute (minimum 15 minutes for £1) and users get a free cup of coffee after an hour.
good for: families on mid-range budgets.
recommendations: the Sagterra studios (featured by Kosmar), has units for two people, set around a swimming pool. Prices are from £14 a night. There is a free taxi ride from the ferry port to the hotel.
