BA rejects armed guards bid
BRITISH Airways has ruled out the possibility of armed security guards on its aircraft, despite a travel agency survey showing customer support for US-style air marshals.
A poll of 100 customers carried out by Preston-based Ashton Travel Centre found 62% in favour of using plain-clothed armed policemen.
Manager Sandra Mercer said: “Most clients thought armed policemen were a good idea on board providing they were plain-clothed and their weapons were hidden.”
Lufthansa is the first of the European carriers to introduce on-board security guards, but will not reveal whether they are armed.
