Virgin halts in-flight magazine
VIRGIN is suspending in-flight magazine Hot Air until further notice because of falling advertising revenue.
The news comes as carriers all over the world examine ways of cutting costs in the wake of last month’s attacks on the US which dealt a body blow to the aviation industry.
British Airways and bmi british midland are continuing to produce High Life and Voyager, their respective on-board magazines, insisting that advertising revenues are high enough to maintain both publications.
Voyager advertising manager Sam Laite said bmi’s European routes had sheltered the magazine’s revenue from the immediate effects of September 11.
* The September issue of British Airways’ High Life was removed from aircraft so three adverts deemed insensitive following last month’s attacks could be removed. It has now been replaced by the October issue.
