ABTA president Steven Freudmann has said he will not stand for re-election at the end of his three-year term in May.
He told the board it was “not appropriate” as it would mean rewriting ABTA rules. Freudmann added that several suitable replacements have now thrown their hat into the ring.
“I said I would stand if no one suitable came forward but they have,” said Freudmann. “To stand again would have meant calling an extraordinary general meeting as three years is the maximum term of office.”
Freudmann, however, is determined not to sever all links with Newman Street and will seek a place on the board. He will fight for one of three places in the national elections.
Meanwhile, Aviation Committee chairman Sandy McPherson is expected to stand for president.
ABTA South Wales chairman Sam Smith and Multiple Travel Agents’ Association chairman Brian Axon-Boyes have indicated they may stand.
