bmi british midland enters low-cost market

BMI british midland is to launch a low-cost airline.

The new carrier will operate from East Midlands airport and
will commence services on March 23.

It will have a separate name and corporate identity from bmi,
although both are being kept under wraps.

BMI chief financial officer Nigel Turner is responsible for
the new airline. He said: “BMI is launching this new airline in response to a
clear market opportunity and consumer demand. With its launch, bmi will have a
strong presence in both the no frills and full service sectors.”

Destinations to be served by the no frills carrier will
include Barcelona, Nice, Palma, Malaga, Faro and Alicante. Prices will lead in
£25 each way and consumers will be able to book either direct with a travel
agent via a dedicated Internet facility.
