US joins forces for global drive
US COMPANIES are jointly funding a global television advertising campaign in an effort to boost travel in and to the country.
The multi-million dollar campaign combines snippets of speeches given by George Bush since September 11 with words of encouragement from a cross-section of industry employees including airline pilots, cabin crew and cruise staff.
White House approval for the campaign – launched last week at World Travel Market – was only gained a week ago as Travel Industry Association of America president Bill Norman prepared to fly to the UK.
Speaking at the Visit USA marketing outlook forum at London’s Millennium Gloucester Hotel, Norman said: “We are doing everything we can to restore travellers’ sense of safety.
“We have much more to do, but we intend to bring travel to the US in 2002 back to its pre-September 11 level,” he said.
