Easyjet shrugs off strike threat

EASYJET
has shrugged off the threat of strike action by baggage handlers at Luton,
insisting a walkout can be averted.

Baggage
handlers in the T&G union voted unanimously to strike over the airline’s
refusal to recognise the union.

An
EasyJet spokeswoman said: “We are meeting this week, but there is very little
threat of strikes.”

However,
T&G regional industrial organiser John Street warned: “The threat of a
strike is very real.”

A strike by pilots could hit British Airways if a pay offer is not improved.

The
British Airline Pilots’ Association said talks are ongoing with BA after the
carrier offered a 1% rise.

BALPA is pushing for a larger increase to keep members
in line with other airlines. BA has played down the threat of industrial
action.
