SPANISH hoteliers have been warned the good times
could be over as competition hots up from cheaper eastern Mediterranean
resorts.
First Choice chief executive Peter Long said Spanish suppliers
should not rest on their laurels simply because the conflict in the Gulf had
led to holidaymakers switching from the eastern to the western Mediterranean.
“The pressure is on. It may be the absolute peak is
over,” Long told delegates at the third annual Spanish Tourism Exchange for
Professionals.
Hoteliers needed to be aware of competition from
Turkey and Bulgaria – set to be First Choice’s destination “winners” this year
despite the war – and continue to work closely with UK operators and upgrade
their product.
