THE new tourism minister is Richard
Caborn, who moves from within the Department of Culture, Media and Sport where
he is currently sports minister.
Caborn replaces Kim Howells who was
appointed minister for transport in the Government reshuffle announced last
week.
Secretary of State for Culture Tessa Jowell announced Caborn’s appointment last
night at a London meeting of lobbying group Tourism Alliance.
She said Caborn was “absolutely delighted” with his new position and
had a long history in Government.
“He
will do a fantastic job and he’s very, very keen,” she said.
Jowell also paid tribute to Howells who had been “highly effective”
and had supported her in driving forward tourism reform over the last couple of
years, she said.
