Hoverspeed jobs threat

HOVERSPEED
is considering axeing staff as part of a shake-up aimed at improving the way it
copes with the drop in business over winter.

The
Dover to Calais car ferry operator said it is considering a number of proposals
which include “possible redundancies”.

A
spokesman said an “open-ended” consultation with staff had begun but there were
no firm details as to whether jobs would go or how many.

The
company said it needed to change its business model to cope better with
business year-round.

A statement said: “Hoverspeed needs to overcome the
problems faced by the whole cross-channel trade which experiences large volumes
of traffic in the summer, autumn and spring school holidays but low traffic the
rest of the year.”
