Birmingham start-up eyes Florida

A
NEW scheduled carrier is looking to operate services from Birmingham Airport to
Florida next year.

The
carrier, FlyBlu, is taking a stand a next month’s World Travel Market where it
is expected to confirm details of its routes. Birmingham businessman Aden
Murcutt, who is behind the launch of the airline, told Travel Weekly he was
still in the process of acquiring aircraft, but it was “very likely we will be
launching services to Florida.”

“We
are a long way into conducting a feasibility study and anticipate making an
announcement at WTM.”

It
is believed FlyBlu could serve Miami, Fort Lauderdale and the Gulf Coast,
possibly Tampa, and be up and running in time for Easter.

Currently the only scheduled operator out of
Birmingham is Continental to Newark.
