GLOBESPAN is withdrawing senior citizen discounts on its charter flights to Canada for 2000 because it claims some agents are abusing the offer by passing these lower rates on to younger travellers.
Chairman and managing director Tom Dalrymple said: “These discounts were specifically introduced for the benefit of genuine senior citizens but it is evident it is now not only seniors who are getting them.
“It is impossible for us as a tour operator to police these discounts as it would be impractical to have customers’ proof of age sent to us by their travel agent at the time of booking.
“We also couldn’t check this at airport check-in, so we have to rely on agents to do it for us,” he said.
