LUNN Poly is considering rolling out its “whispering
windows” technology to other stores after the agency claimed it was pulling in
customers.
Research at its Manchester Market Street branch showed
a 42% increase in footfall in the first week of January, with subsequent weeks
rising 37% and 28%. At its Manchester Trafford Centre shop, which does not have
the system, footfall rose by 19% in the first week and by only 1% in the
following two weeks.
A spokeswoman said Lunn Poly was likely to extend the
technology – introduced on a trial basis at six branches – to other shops.
“It has worked well,” she said. “We will be looking at
how widely we can use it.”
The system transforms the
shop window into a ‘speaker’ – triggered by movement sensors – which pipes
holiday messages to people walking past.
