Agents forced to wait for PSC after carriers launch appeal


AGENTS will have to wait until summer for £60m compensation from airlines which lost the Passenger Service Charge case (Travel Weekly December 6).



British Airways, Virgin Atlantic and Lufthansa launch an appeal this week but it is unlikely to be heard for six months. BAsaid it was seeking clarification on whether the three agencies which brought the test case – Jetset, Majestic Travel and Phoenix Travel – would receive compensation while an appeal proceeds.



ABTA plans a meeting with the three airlines to seek assurances on how PSC will be shown on tickets and how agents will be compensated, if an appeal fails.



BA said stickers will be put on tickets this week to make it clear PSCwas not a tax. From next month, new ticket stock will include a box for taxes, fees and charges.



Meanwhile, BAis finalising discussions with ABTA over the new structure of commission payments. An announcement is due in mid-January.
